This topic has been on my mind for the longest time now. For as long as I can remember, South Park has been on the air, along with many other adult cartoons such as Family Guy the Cleveland Show, King of the Hill and numerous others.
However, I don’t want to keep you here all day. The purpose of today’s article is to have a serious discussion about adult cartoons. I feel as though the writers of adult cartoons nowadays are not sensitive to people with the physical disabilities. For example, in an episode of South Park the two disabled characters had what was described as a ”crippled fight ”.
Not to mention, the way they make characters that are physically disabled look, is entirely unacceptable, as writers often make disabled characters look feeble and helpless, or unintelligent.
Getting back to offensive vocabulary, every time I hear the word crippled, I want to kick the person who said it in their private area for using that word in 2018.
For the disabled community, crippled is a word that is strictly unacceptable, and it does not help that we have these adult cartoons that can mock us and allow people to think that it is funny to be disabled.
The reason why I feel as though this is a critical topic to discuss is that it’s not just the adults that are watching these cartoons, unfortunately, children and teenagers are as well.
We must stop future generations from getting the idea that it is okay to disrespect people who have disabilities, from these provocative cartoons.
The Cleveland Show is perhaps the worst example, in respect to disrespecting the disabled community.
This can be clearly seen in the episode where Donna, Cleveland’s wife holds the charity event for children that are physically disabled. South Park is just as bad, if not worse.
I don’t find it right for anybody to be picked on, or be the subject of a TV show’s bad jokes, whether you are physically challenged, or struggle with depression.
These TV shows may be entertaining, but one should never degrade another, simply to be entertained. We are all human. We all have stories and voices. This is me using my voice and raising an issue that needs to be talked about.
Next time you watch an adult cartoon, think long and hard about what really is funny and what is really not.
