10 advocates who have inspired me …

In honor of the ADA 30th anniversary, I wanted to do something a little different I wanted to give recognition to advocates that had a strong impact on my life throughout the years of me connecting and doing advocacy work within the disability community :

 

  1. Tammy Flynn, Host of on Air Advocate- what can I say about On-Air Advocate Host Tammy Flynn she has been the type of advocate who is very passionate about all disabilities and spreading awareness for them all.
  2. Mollie Miller and Erin Noon-Kay (Claiming Disability inc. – what can I say about these two fierce women that are a prime example of what it truly means to be entrepreneurs and be your boss despite the obstacles in your way.
  3. Edward V. Roberts- Edward Verne Roberts was an American activist. He was the first student who relied on a wheelchair to attend the University of California, Berkeley. He was a pioneering leader of the disability rights movement.
  4. Justin Whitlock Dart Jr. was an American activist and advocate for people with disabilities. He helped to pass the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, co-founded the American Association of People with Disabilities, and is regarded as the “Godfather of the ADA”.
  5. Kitty Cone- Kitty Cone was an American disability rights activist. She had muscular dystrophy. She moved to the California Bay Area in 1972 and began working as a community organizer for the disability rights movement in 1974.
  6. Priya Ray – DIYABLED- What could I say about Priya Ray she teaches others with disabilities that they can do it themselves
  7. Pauline ONE LEG UP PRODUCTIONS – what could I say Pauline has defined all the odds and she is a prime example of what it means to be a winner.
  8. Evan Kemp, Jr.: As chairman of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Evan helped shape the landmark Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.
  9. Judith E. Heumann is an American disability rights activist and an internationally recognized leader in the disability community.
  10. John “J.M. “Wood, Spina Bifida advocate author, youth leader what could I say about John J.M Wood, he is a passionate Advocate who teaches others with disabilities to tell their stories to the best of their abilities.
