I wanted to write a letter for my future son because when I someday have him I want him to know that his mother loved him even before he was born. I want him to know that I thought about having him in my life before I was even married to his awesome daddy who gave me the precious gift of having him as his son,
Dearest Austin Nicholas,
It’s mommy writing to you while listening to the song I named you after. The song that helped mommy navigate through life when she was trying to figure out a way to make it out of what she would consider a tough time in her early 20s with her limitations. Growing up was never easy for mommy as you know from the stories I’ve told you. I hope the stories I told you taught you a valuable lesson about never giving up on your dreams despite the battles you face in life. Son, I can’t wait to start my journey with you. I can’t wait to teach you how to treat a lady or a man whichever you prefer my son I’ll be okay with. I’ll love you regardless of who you choose to love but please just know if they hurt you I’ll chase them down the road. In all seriousness, I can’t wait to take you on my book tours and spoil you rotten but don’t get me wrong you must earn it with good grades and hard work. I’m sure you’re going to do great things in your life as the young man I raise you to be.
It’s been amazing getting to watch you grow into an amazing young man. From your first day of kindergarten to your high school graduation to your first crush.I’ll always be proud of you and what you been able to accomplish throughout the years. I will forever be there for you even when you fall flat on your face and you feel like you failed. I promise to be there. To hug you, kiss you and be there when you need someone to talk to. I promise to be the one to protect you from everything you might be afraid of and I promise to always try and listen to your needs. I promise to be the greatest mom I can be.
I promise to be your first love and your best friend and follow the lead that you want to take in life as long as you follow a good path. I’ll be okay with whatever you choose to do in life son but always remember mommy loves you to the moon and back. Even when I take away your iPod or your phone. I’m only doing it because I’m teaching you how to be a man and to learn from your mistakes.
I can’t wait to hold you in my arms for the first time after hours and months of waiting for you. I can’t wait to see your eyes open for the first time, e and I hear the sounds of your cry but until then I’ll see you soon.
