This past month, I had the joy of visiting Asheville, North Carolina, to spend time with my family. It was a trip filled with laughter, love, and a little adventure. One moment, in particular, stood out—something I’ve dreamed of for years. Thanks to my cousin DJ, I got to sit in the front seat of a pickup truck.
As we drove along winding mountain roads, I felt like I was living in an episode of The Dukes of Hazzard. The curves were thrilling, the views breathtaking, and the experience surreal. But beyond the excitement, that ride became a metaphor for my life.
The past few months have been a journey of overcoming struggles and obstacles. From navigating life with cerebral palsy to recovering from surgery in February, I’ve faced moments that tested my strength and faith. Yet, as I leaned on God through it all, I realized something profound: grace enables me to overcome anything.
Each curve on that mountain road reminded me of the twists and turns in my own story. Some were unexpected, some were challenging, but all of them were part of a journey that continues to unfold. And just like that ride, I’ve learned that the key to navigating life’s curves is finding my inner strength and trusting that God is guiding me.
This realization inspired my upcoming Christian romance novel, I Am Able by Grace, now available for pre-order on Amazon. The story follows two characters who, like me, have faced their share of struggles and found hope in their faith.
Brendan Kelly is a 17-year-old gospel singer with spastic diplegia cerebral palsy, a heart full of faith, and a voice that echoes through the countryside of rural Florida. Raised in a loving, God-fearing family, Brendan dreams of using his music to inspire hope—until a record deal propels him from his small-town church choir into the national spotlight.
Cierra Sullivan, a quiet, gifted writer, is a 19-year-old foster youth with cerebral palsy and scars that run deeper than anyone knows. Battling insecurity, addiction, and the ache of abandonment, she clings to her fading faith and the memory of a single moment—meeting Brendan at a church concert when she was fifteen.
Years later, their lives intersect again—this time as adults carrying pain, purpose, and the possibility of redemption. As Brendan helps Cierra navigate recovery and rediscover her faith, their connection deepens into a love neither of them expected. But healing isn’t easy, and grace isn’t cheap.
Together, they must face their pasts, trust God with their futures, and choose love in the middle of their brokenness.
I Am Able by Grace is a powerful story of resilience, faith, disability, and the kind of love that only God can write—a story for anyone who’s ever believed they were too far gone to be called back by grace.
If you’re struggling to find your way, remember this: your story isn’t over. Keep writing it, one curve at a time. As Brendan Kelly tells Cierra in the novel, “You’re still seen, sis.”
You are seen. You are loved. And by grace, you are able.
