– Mayor Bloomberg Wednesday brushed off the feds’ effort to make more cabs handicapped-accessible – saying it would inconvenience able-bodied passengers.
If you’re in a wheelchair, it’s really hard to go out in the street and hail down a cab and get the cab to pull over and get into it” he said.
“So, forget the other reasons, just for that alone, we think there’s better ways to do it, and that’s have a service where you call and we will send designated cabs that are wheelchair-accessible.” – Mayor Bloomberg
Umm, Mayor Bloomberg are you kidding me ?! I’m sitting here staring at my screen in annoyance as I read what you had to say about wheelchair users getting around in New York City.
but that’s not the comment Mayor Bloomberg said that really got to me THIS WAS THE COMMENT THAT GOT ME
“It just doesn’t work in a city like ours, and I don’t know that the U.S. attorney’s office understands how people live in the city and the traffic patterns and that sort of thing,” he said of street hails by wheelchair users.
In my opinion, This is the most insulting you can say about wheelchair users roaming The big apple it makes it seems like wheelchair users roaming around the city is an inconvenience.
I’m sorry to Mayor Bloomberg but I will continue to be an inconvenience to you for as long as I travel to the city of New York and wheel my wheelchair around.
When it comes to having accessible cabs being unfair to able-bodied riders WHO CARES IF IT’S UNFAIR TO THEM!
IT’S UNFAIR TO US THAT WE HAVE TO CONTINUE TO FIGHT TO LIVE IN A SOCIETY THAT DOESN’T ALWAYS ADAPT TO OUR NEEDS.
SO WITH THAT BEING SAID, I JUST WANT TO REMIND YOU THAT PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES HAVE LIVES AND WE MATTER.
AND WE DESERVE TO LIVE OUR LIVES TO THE BEST OF OUR ABILITIES!
