Over the years of having Cerebral palsy, I have discovered the 4 pet peeves that have driven me crazy as a person with Cerebral palsy.
- When people pet my head- I had this happen to me several different times when having interactions with people and it drives me nuts because we’re not dogs we’re are human.
- Baby talk syndrome- now this one drives me crazy just because I’m in a wheelchair and it invisible doesn’t mean you can talk to me as if I’m a 3-year-old toddler.
- When people referred to objects and things as retarded – I can’t stand it when I see this happen in our society not only is it ableism it continues the stigmas that Disability activists like myself are trying to debunk.
- When people compare you to someone else with the same condition – Now I absolutely dislike it when people do this because believe it or not it still continues the stigma of everyone with Cerebral palsy is the same and we’re not we’re all unique and different in our own way.
I hope that with more awareness we can Educate and give people the knowledge they need to help people in our society understand what its like to live with Cerebral palsy and hopefully these 4 pet peeves will become a thing of the past.
