Music has always been a huge part of my life. From a very young age, my parents exposed me to a wide variety of music. It wasn’t until my teenage years, though, that I fell in love with country music.
I love country music because each song tells its own story. The lyrics feel like novels. As a creative person, I love anything that engages my imagination. The beautiful tales country songs tell paint characters and landscapes in my mind.
In my years of listening to country music, I’ve found several country artists that I absolutely love. George Strait, Randy Travis, Toby Keith… every artist is incredible. I love them all. The one country music star who will always hold a special place in heart, though, is Blake Shelton.
My favorite album is his first ever, “Blake Shelton.” The hit single from that album, “Austin,” has helped me through one of the toughest times in my life.
As I entered adulthood, I faced numerous struggles. I knew adulthood wouldn’t be easy, but the weight of my physical and mental health became an impossible pill to swallow. Every time I thought about quitting, I would stop and turn on that Blake Shelton album, and somehow, things felt lighter.
When I’d hear those first lyrics of “Austin,” I’d travel to a whole different place; a place where a love story unfolds. I’ll never know why, but somehow those words motivated me to push forward. As those lyrics swirled around my mind, I’d hear a voice telling me that my life would eventually come together if I just kept trying.
Although “Austin” may be a love story, there’s so much more meaning hidden in the song. Just like the cowboy who never gave up on his true love (even after she left), we should never give up on our dreams. If you quit, you’ll never achieve what you really want in life.
“Austin” taught me that no obstacle is too large to overcome. If you’re passionate about something, then it’s worth going to the end of the world to make your dreams a reality. “Austin” helped me learn how to fight for your desires every single day. So now, anytime I begin to struggle, I think about that cowboy’s journey to find love and remember there’s always a light at the end of the tunnel.
No matter what struggles you face in life, remember “Austin,” and never give up on your dreams. When you keep reaching for the stars, you’ll ultimately achieve all that you desire.
