During the month of November, we naturally tend to reflect on what we are thankful for and for me, it’s almost always about my Cerebral Palsy (CP). While it’s not always a constant source of gratitude, 99% of the time, I find great things to be grateful for within my diagnosis.
From the moment I was born, CP has been a part of my life, challenging me to overcome obstacles and face daily challenges. Weighing in at just 2 pounds, 3 ounces, my CP journey started immediately. However, despite these initial obstacles, I am thankful for my CP because it has made me who I am today.
CP has the unique ability to make a person stand out. Whether it’s my scissor-like legs or my occasional flares, CP has given me an identity that sets me apart. I am grateful for this because standing out allows me to make a lasting impression on those who encounter me.
Every day is an adventure with CP. You never know what you’re going to get into, whether it’s untying my scissor legs or dealing with an unexpected flareup. However, what I want you to know this Thanksgiving season is that there’s a lot to be thankful for, even amidst the struggles of living with a disability like CP.
Yes, living with CP (Cerebral Palsy) can be one of the most challenging struggles a person can face. But let’s be real. It is an adventure, a unique journey that allows you to see the world from your own perspective. And for that, I am incredibly grateful.
So, this Thanksgiving season, let’s embrace the challenges and celebrate our triumphs. Let’s appreciate the lessons we have learned and the adventures we have experienced. And let’s remember that there is always something to be grateful for, even in the most unexpected situations.
Remember, you only get one chance at life, and you only see the world through your own eyes once. So, embrace the journey and cherish the moments, for they are what make you truly thankful.
