With June being Gay pride awareness month, I tend to think about my friends that are apart of LGBTQ Community that have Cerebral Palsy and other disabilities and how much difficultly they have getting around LGBTQ Events within their Community which makes it hard for them to fully enjoy and celebrate their accomplishments of being who they are as individuals.
So why should the LGBTQ Community make their events more accessible for those with disabilities
- Disabled people deserve to celebrate just as much as anyone else – I strongly feel that people with disabilities in the LGBTQ community have a right to celebrate Gay pride just as much as an able-bodied person does and not having accessibility at a gay pride event blocks someone with a disability from doing so.
- People with disabilities in the LGBTQ community are just a part of the LGBTQ Community just like everyone else – people with disabilities are just a part of the LGBTQ Community and deserve to have their stories heard and be a part of the Community too.
- People in the LGBTQ Community come with all different types of people- The LGBTQ Community comes in all different type of people with many different abilities and wants to express their love for pride and without having accessibility at events it blocked them from doing so .
Ultimately there are many reasons why we should consider making all LGBTQ events accessible for those with disabilities but we all have diversity which is key in this Community and we should never be blocked from expressing that due to lack of accessibility
