I got it a few months ago. My interest in a documentary about dating with disability and navigating intimacy was piqued by a producer at Seen TV. As soon as I said yes, I began to film my life as I knew it from the perspective of my lenses I wanted to show the world that dating with a disability can be just as rewarding, if not more so, than any other type of relationship. I wanted to show that disability can be just another part of the human experience and that love and connection can be found in all kinds of relationships. I wanted to share my story and inspire others.
In truth, what I love about my job is that I get to impact others through education, by debunking stigmas, and by connecting with others experiencing similar journeys that I once had. I believe that by doing this, I am able to make a positive difference in the world and bring about meaningful change. I am passionate about my work and thrive in an environment that encourages me to keep learning, growing, and advocating for others.
Not just for you, but for others around you, it shouldn’t be about likes, views, and payments, it should be about what you can do to make society better. That’s what being seen is all about. The best form of compensation is being an advocate for those like me. As a writer, author and disability rights activist, every time I take on a project, I try to think of how I can make an impact on the world. What message do I want to spread?
It’s always the same answer. It is important for people to know that Cerebral Palsy is not ugly just because we don’t do things as able-bodied people do. We can still accomplish it. It’s just a matter of doing things differently and taking a different route.
When it comes to dating with Cerebral Palsy, I want those to know that there is someone out there for them, even if I am struggling to find a place in the dating world. It’s just a matter of going on the journey and embracing the ride, because one day you’ll get to that beautiful destination with that person you’re supposed to meet.
Having been in a two-year relationship that ended unexpectedly, I am accepting who I am as a single woman. I am ready to embrace the journey and see what lies ahead. For now, I am just embracing it day by day and striving to be the best person I can be because that is all I know how to do. In the end, I will find the right person for me someday.
With that being said, I am grateful for the experiences I’ve had filming with Seen TV producers. I am grateful for putting this all together to make my voice and story heard from my point of view. It was a huge honor and I’m proud that I was able to make an impact. I look forward to the future and the opportunities it will bring. I’m excited to see what’s next.
As the famous American talk show host Oprah Winfrey once said: “Be thankful for what you have; you’ll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don’t have, you will never, ever have enough.”
