It has been an extremely busy month for me. Surprisingly, a couple of months back, I was asked to be a part of a documentary series about my experience with Cerebral Palsy. Of course, I immediately jumped on board with the project. There were so many great things I learned, and I got a new perspective on the articles I’d written in the books I published.
As a person with a disability, I believe we have the best opportunity to tell her story from our perspective after this experience. By taking advantage of that opportunity, we can change the worlds perception of Cerebral Palsy and what it’s like to live with it, and debunk the stigmas that come with it.
Many people ask me where I get my inspiration to write and tell my story. The answer is quite simple: my real-life experiences that have shaped me into the woman I am today.
I think my life would be very different if I weren’t affected by Cerebral Palsy. While I would gain a new perspective on the world and have a new set of lenses, my life’s path would be different, but I try not to think about it. Whenever I think about my current path, I try to keep it in perspective.
The documentary process helped me reflect on my life, not only the struggles and challenges that brought me to this opportunity to be able to film a documentary with the help of my lenses and the wonderful producer who helped me along the way.
It taught me one thing is that sometimes obstacles and challenges are the stories that make the most memorable ones and you want to make people see through your lens and the message you want to share with the world. Everyone experiences setbacks and struggles, but these can become defining moments of strength and courage if we choose to learn and grow from them. It is important to stay resilient and find ways to share our stories in hopes that it might inspire others.
That’s what I’ll keep doing all throughout my journey with Cerebral Palsy and I’ll help others realize that having CP isn’t tragic. The only thing that makes you a tragedy is how society reacts to it. and how we view it.
We must change society’s narrative about Cerebral Palsy, and I feel I have achieved that through this documentary, and I’ve given a positive perspective on what life is like with Cerebral Palsy. This documentary has given a voice to many people with Cerebral Palsy, and it has helped to spread awareness and understanding of the condition. I am hopeful that this documentary will help to bring about positive change in how society interacts with people with Cerebral Palsy.
